At croton animal hospital, the quality of care is unmatched. my dog has had some health issues over the years. she had an anaphylactic reaction to vaccines and dr popolow was amazing - calm and knew exactly what to do - that day she basically treated my dog and me since it was so hard for me to watch my dog who was so sick but I also watched a vet who was able to turn the whole episode around so that I could take my dog home. when my dog had a liver infection but presented with so many different symptoms, dr popolow ultimately figured out what was going on (thyroid issue) and prescribed medication that completely changed my dog's life. the other vets and the staff are also incredibly compassionate, they truly listen to you and make you feel like no question is too ridiculous to ask. when pixie is not well it is comforting to know that they are at the other end of the phone and that she will receive the best care. after illness or injury visits, I get phone calls checking on pixie and the care is genuine. I have been with this practice for about 24 years and would never go anywhere else, I trust them implicitly with my dog's health. I hope that dr popolow and croton animal hospital are recognized for the great work that they do and the wonderful care that they provide.

In October 2012, I discovered a peasize growth on the inner flap of my dog Rocky’s ear. In graduate school in Washington, DC and away from my home base in New York, I took Rocky to a local vet. When the initial tests were inconclusive, my DCsubstitute vet recommended complete removal of the growth. I immediately called Dr. Gilbert, my trusted vet more than 250 miles away in NY, and decided to bring Rocky home to see him. Then came Hurricane Sandy. NY was in ruin, and the interstate connecting DC to NY was in shambles. Still, I drove Rocky home the day after Sandy hit, and Dr. Gilbert performed all the presurgery tests, albeit in complete darkness and without any electrical power. We scheduled—and rescheduled—Rocky’s surgery every day for the next week and a half, but were still without power. Desperate for the growth to be removed, I drove Rocky back to DC and scheduled her surgery with a vet we had never met before. I was distraught. On Sunday afternoon, mere hours before Rocky’s surgery, I received this text message from Dr. Gilbert: “Power just came on!! You are the first person I am telling.†Rocky and I jumped into the car, hightailed it back to NY, and Dr. Gilbert performed her surgery the following morning. A year later, I have a beautiful, spirited, and healthy dog. I cannot think of any doctor more deserving of being labeled “the best†than Dr. Gilbert.
